FAITH Musonda’s walk to freedom suffered a major setback on Wednesday night after Police rearrested her a few minutes after releasing her on bond on the pretext that they had received fresh information.
Ms Musonda who was then ordered to do some fingerprints which she objected to has again released on bond.
One of her lawyers, Mr Jonas Zimba said Ms Musonda was charged with being in possession of properties suspected to be proceeds of crime.
Mr Zimba confirmed that his client was released last night but that no date had been set for her to appear in court.
“I can confirm that she has been released and has been charged with the offence of being in possession of properties suspected to be proceeds of crime,” he said.
Another of her lawyers, Mr Makebi Zulu complained that Ms Musonda was being victimised.
Mr Zulu said after re-arresting Ms Musonda, the police whisked her from Richard Kachingwe Police Post in Kabwata site and service where she was detained to Chelstone Police Station, about 20 km away without giving any proper details on the change of locality.
He said in an interview that his client managed to meet the bond conditions with her sureties who signed but was shocked that officers from the Anti-Corruption Commission later rearrested her.
“The officers got fresh instructions from their superiors who demanded that Ms Musonda leaves her finger prints,” he said.
Mr Zulu said the legal team however objected to the conditions set because their client was not a criminal.
He said that they were working round the clock to ensure that Ms Musonda’s release was secured and that she was set free.
Ms Musonda, a journalist, came into the limelight after K65 million and US$57, 000 cash was found in her New Kasama house which she forfeited to the state after an amnesty deal.
Ms Musonda was however picked up again on Tuesday on fresh charges and has been in custody since.
ACC spokesperson Queen Chibwe said they would issue a statement on the matter.
