Dear Editor,
ZAMBIANS have 75 percent confidence in the new dawn administration (Hichilema-Nalumango administration) to clean up the mess that was caused by the Patriotic Front-led Government for 10 years so that their lives get back to normal where the economy gets stabilised, the cost of living decreases, jobs be created especially for youths, lawlessness-corruption-bad governance get combated and defeated and so many more.
The People of Zambia are peace-loving who once had 100 percent confidence in their government when they gained their independence. But their very own Governments have been betraying them from one Administration to the other and that led to Zambians begin to confidence in the Governments.
Governments are established to serve and protect the interests of the people by listening to their concerns, visions, ideas, views and solutions so that both the government and citizens work together to achieve a common goal.
That is why in the government there have been an establishment of the Legislature as 1/3 arm of the Government where the people have representatives to present their needs through Bills for debates for legislations.
But unfortunately the very individuals elected to serve their people in various constituencies do not seem to understand their roles.
Over the years Members of Parliament have been ignoring the people and their political stances have been satisfying themselves by wasting Taxpayer’s money and time to either present bills-policies to benefit their political parties and the party in power or to oppose to benefit their political parties.
This system has affected vulnerable and innocent Zambians were laws and policies and budget acquisitions worked against their well-being.
The People of Zambia understand that sacrifices must be made to achieve the greater good because they are a Christian nation that believes that God had to sacrifice His only begotten son to achieve the greatest redemption of mankind.
Before the coming in of the Hichilema-Nalumango Administration, Zambians were under suffocation whilst being sickened by high levels of grand corruption and bad governance.
That prompted them to lose confidence in the ECL-PF because no matter how hard they would sacrifice their money through fuel hikes, increase in electricity tariffs, toll-gates, high taxes, their money was being diverted into the pockets of individuals who continued to make their lives worse from bad.
Zambians sacrificed too much money over the years that they wouldn’t be borrowing money from international lenders.
For the Government to reach an extent that it needs to borrow money from the lenders after consultations with stakeholders (the people) it means that the government is in short of a certain amount of money to carry out developmental projects to better People’s lives.
But unfortunately the borrowings turned to be a way of Governments to steal instead of putting the borrowed money to stabilise the economy through creation of jobs, improvement in health-education-agricultural-mining-tourism service delivery, improvement in infrastructure-institution-facility construction-maintenance and so many more.
The governments of Zambia have been borrowing huge sum of money but nothing good has ever resulted from that because the economy keeps getting worse.
Where has the money been going to…?
Zambians are willing to work with the new dawn administration but there is need to give them time to breathe and heal.
MAXWELL NSAMA.
