PATRIOTIC Front (PF) Member of the Central Committee in charge of Information and Publicity Raphael Nakacinda says President Edgar Lungu lost the August 12 elections because he chose to be honest.

Mr Nakacinda pointed out that the former president’s stance on gay rights as one of the firm decisions he had to make without sugar coating his words.

He added that Dr Lungu’s greatest achievement is his commitment to Constitutional reforms and strengthening institutions of government.

The MCC said this when he featured on KBN TV’s State of the Nation on Thursday.

“President Edgar Lungu lost because he chose to be honest. He didn’t sugar coat his words. When he was asked about gays, he said that we cannot entertain. If animals don’t do that, how would you expect human beings with five senses to do that, it’s not within our culture,” he said.

“That singular interview without coating it with some diplomacy like President Hakainde did somewhere, where he said we are going to realign our values. It raised concerns with certain international elements that begun to back UPND because the UPND had even signed an agreement with liberal network. That is not the only thing. One of the greatest achievement of President Edgar Lungu is his commitment to Constitutional reforms and strengthening institutions of government.”

“Every citizen should be concerned that the President himself starts to get involved in the day to day operation of these law enforcing agencies because then that heavy handedness has the potential to make these institutions to operate in a politically inclined manner, as it has been exhibited now.”

Mr Nakacinda charged that UPND was giving instruction to the law enforcement agencies thinking that is how PF operated.
