The Food Reserve Agency (FRA) should re-organise itself and start paying farmers on time so that they can buy inputs for the next farming season, says Zambia National Farmers Union, Public Relations manager, Kelvin Kaleyi.
Mr Kaleyi said in an interview that the delay by government in paying farmers that supplied maize had been a year-in-year-out issue which should come to an end.
He said the country could not have a situation where farmers get into another farming season without being paid for maize supplied in the precious farming season.
He said it was frustrating and disappointing especially that some farmers did not have any other way of generating income.
Mr Kaleyi stated that ZNFU was concerned and worried over the delayed payment of farmers as this will affect more farmers if delayed further.
Mr Kaleyi said this was not a matter that should be repeating itself because the purchase of maize from farmers had a budgetary allocation
