The People’s Alliance for Change (PAC) has accused the New Dawn government of lacking internal locus of control resulting in reactive decisions.
In an interview, PAC president, Andyford Banda observed that the UPND led government had in its first 100 days failed to demonstrate that it had the capacity to implement its policies. He said that most of the actions that it had taken were as a result of external pressure.
He pointed out that the UPND government had lamentably failed to stick to its strategies because it lacked the capacity to be consistent and trustworthy. He wondered why a party in government would fail to effectively implement its own manifesto. He noted that a number of strategies had either been discarded or adjusted to suit the demands from external forces.
He lamented that the pending increase of fuel prices was one such area of concern which clearly demonstrates that the UPND had no capacity to implement its own policies. He said that the promise to reduce the price of fuel was being awaited by citizens who were now shocked to anticipate the opposite.
He also cited the pending increase in electricity tariffs among other ills that show that the current government had failed to stand by its own manifesto. He therefore urged the UPND government to take stock of its performance in the first 100 days in office if it will remain relevant.
Mr. Banda said that the UPND government had made several promises which it had failed to fulfill or justify cause for change of position. He said that this was testimony of the party’s lack of internal capacity to effectively deliver on the promises for which it won the elections.
He acknowledged that the happenings could be attributed to the realities that the UPND had met in governing the country. He however insisted that this could not be an excuse because there was no indication that the party was even attempting to walk the talk.
