MORE than K30million is needed to carry out rehabilitation works at the Kitwe Teaching Hospital (KTH) in order to improve service delivery at the only referral hospital in Kitwe, Hopital Senior Medical Superintendent Abidan Chansa has said.

Dr Chansa said it was important that the hospital was rehabilitated to give it a facelift and ensure improved service delivery to the ever growing population of the city of Kitwe.

Dr Chansa was when Health Minister Sylvia Masebo met senior health workers at Moba Hotel in Kitwe.
Dr Chansa said the health facility needed in excess of K30 million in order to carry out rehabilitation works for the entire hospital to improve health service delivery.

He highlighted some of the challenges such as bad floors, electrical installations, plumbing works and water reticulation system.

“We are grateful that as Health Minister, you have found time to visit Kitwe Teaching Hospital so that you can understand its operations and challenges. I can say the hospital is facing a number of challenges. It also needs to be rehabilitated.
“The hospital needs more than K30million to carry out rehabilitation works. The hospital is in a state where service provision will seemingly look compromised if government does not work on improving the infrastructure,” Dr Chansa said.

Dr Chansa also said that there was also a total collapse of the primary service level provision in the district where there was inadequate supply of drugs in clinics forcing patients to rush to KTH.
“This situation was creating congestion at the health facility hence the need for government to also address the challenge of inadequate supply of drug,” he said
Dr Chansa also said the health workers at the hospital were committed and willing to provide effective and quality service delivery to the people, but that government should try by all means to address some of the challenges it was facing.

And Ms Masebo said the challenges at KTH needed urgent attention and her office would try to look into the challenges facing the hospital.
She said in order for the hospital to effectively deliver to the expectations of the public, it was important that infrastructure was in good state.
