STOP PROPAGATING VIOLENCE, WILLIAM BANDA WARNED

By SIMON MUNTEMBA
Propagating political violence has the danger of spiraling into generalized instability that would endanger the peace that Zambia has enjoyed, former Minister of Home Affairs, Stephen Kampyongo has warned UPND national chairman for special duties, Mr William Banda.

Mr Kampyongo who is Patriotic Front member of the central committee, said as a senior citizen and politician, Mr Banda should promote peace and not incite violence which has the potential to set the country on fire.

His remarks came after Mr Banda threatened in a video which went viral on social media that he would deal with the Patriotic Front in a “heavy duty” way in the Kabwata Parliamentary by-election campaign.

Mr Kampyongo advised Mr Banda to be a role model by not engaging in politics of hooliganism as a seasoned politician.

“We expect Mr William Banda to be a custodian of peace. He had been with UNIP, MMD and now UPND, and as a seasoned politician, he must be the one to teach new entrants in politics that we need to coexist. That is the message that he needs to send because we have got one country, which is Zambia,” Mr Kampyongo said.

He added, “We as PF accepted in a peaceful manner that we lost the August 12, 2021 general elections and it is up to them in government now to ensure peace and stability continues by promoting co-existence. We need them to be responsible to ensure that peace continues.”
