UPND cadres are engaging in violence with impunity because their leadership was shielding them but now the cancer has grown to uncontrollable levels to an extent of attacking civil servants, says the New Congress Party (NCP).
NCP leader Pastor Peter Chanda said that UPND failed to deal with the cancer of hooliganism in their party when it just started and now it had grown to an extent of cadres attacking civil servants because they believed that they would be shielded.
Pastor. Chanda said in an interview that the continued shielding of UPND cadres by calling them PF masquerading as UPND had done more damage than good.
He said the cadres were now committing crime without fear because they knew that little or no action could be taken against them.
Last Friday, UPND cadres in Kasama attacked the district administrative officer, Ms Beauty Namukolo for allegedly delaying to sign empowerment papers.
Pr. Chanda said that the acts of violence should be stopped and quick action be taken against the people who engage in violence before the issue gets out of hand.
He also said the UPND government should quickly find ways in which they could create employment for youths taken away from bus stations and markets.
He also commended President Hakainde Hichilema for directing the police to arrest anyone who commits crime in the name of the party because the police have a responsibility to protect all Zambians.
