Amos Chanda insulted me – witness

By LUCY PHIRI

AMOS Chanda called me an idiot, a criminal and corrupt as we were conducting a search at his house in Woodlands, an officer from the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has told the court.

Mr Christopher Siwakwe, 35, who was the fifth witness, yesterday appeared in the Lusaka Magistrate Court before chief resident magistrate Dominic Makalicha.

Mr Siwakwe, who described the search as obstructive said he had lost concentration at some time when he was insulted whilst doing his job.

Mr Siwakwe said he lost control and concentration because he was angry and felt bad with the insults which were showered on him.

He said on October 27, 2021 he and the other officers were on duty and assigned to conduct searches on some properties at Njobe, State Lodge and Woodlands area belonging to  Mr Chanda.

He stated that as they proceeded to search the Njobe farm area, Mr Chanda called them stupid when they gave him a call to inform him that they were at the premises.

“When we reached the farm, we found that Mr Chanda was not around and we found the farm manager and requested that we talk to his boss and the phone was on loud speaker and he could hear everything. Mr Chanda called us stupid. We later explained the search warrant and proceeded to another property,”  he said.

He said as they reached the property in State Lodge they found Journalists outside the premises and indicated that the ACC officers were conducting a search and no other person should be allowed to enter and the journalists told him that they were invited by Mr Chanda.

The court has set January 3, 2022 for continuation of trial.
