Hold your patience, unemployed docs warned

By PRISCA LUMINGU

Government has warned that unemployed doctors who are threatening to stage a protest have no right to dictate when they should be employed as there is a lot which needs to be done before any recruitment process can start.

And Government has clarified that the pending recruitment process of health workers does not only cater for nurses only but all professions including drivers within the health sector.

Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary for Technical Services Professor Luckson Kasonka said this during the Covid-19 update when he was responding to a query on threats by unemployed doctors to stage a protest following the government’s delay to employ them.

Prof Kasonka said it was unfortunate that the doctors were planning to stage a protest when the government has made it clear that the recruitment process is being done in a systematic way.

Meanwhile, Prof Kasonka has disclosed that 303 Covid-19 cases have so far been recorded from schools since the reopening.

He said this involves pupils, teachers and other supporting staff and that Eastern Province recorded the highest number.

Prof Kasonka also said that the country recorded 111 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours with three deaths.
