By MAKOKWA CLARA MUYENDEKWA

AFTER being found guilty of stealing house hold goods from his mother, a taxi driver of Choma’s Mochipapa area has been sentenced to three months imprisonment with hard labor.

Appearing for plea before Senior Resident Magistrate Peter Mungala was Daniel Sitali who pleaded guilty to the charge.

Sitali was charged with theft contrary to section 272 of the penal code chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia.

It is alleged that Sitali between October 4, 2021 and January 15, 2022 stole a kitchen sink, pressing iron and a satellite dish among other household items valued at K1, 020 from Ms Christine Siatwiinda, his mother, who is the complainant in the matter.

The facts before court were that Ms Siatwiinda secured her home leaving her items in the house intact but later found some items missing.

She asked Sitali about the missing items but he denied having knowledge of the items and she reported to police.

Police investigations led to Sitali’s arrest and recovery of the items valued at K590.

Magistrate Mungala found the accused person guilty on his own admission and convicted him.

In his mitigation, Sitali asked the court to forgive him and that he would not commit the offence again.

After considering that the accused was a first time offender and the value of items recovered, Magistrate Mungala sentenced him to three months imprisonment with hard labour.
