Double efforts to end malaria – Minister

BY  SENIYA BANDA

STAKEHOLDERS should double efforts towards ending malaria by coming up with new initiatives, Health Minister Sylvia Masebo has said.

Ms Masebo has observed that despite huge investment towards malaria control, the country is still lagging behind when it comes to ending the disease

And Ms Masebo says the overnment is ready to work with stakeholders to ensure that it enhances its malaria response.

She says government will provide overall leadership of national health systems, policy and strategy for malaria control activities

Meanwhile, the National Malaria Elimination Centre says good coverage of interventions against malaria remains vital towards ending the disease.

The centre’s acting Director,  Dr Busiku Hamainza says equity is also vital and stakeholders are already working at ensuring everyone is exposed to malaria control initiatives if the country is to end malaria.

Zambia yesterday joined the rest of the world in commemorating malaria day under the theme, Advance Equity, Build Resilience and End Malaria.

Dr Hamainza says resilience entails that interventions against malaria are able to last and are accessed by everyone.
