Finance Minister must quit on moral grounds – Mumba

By ADRIAN MWANZA

FINANCE and National Planning Minister Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane should resign on moral grounds for letting Zambians down as commodities have continued to go haywire and is suffocating them, says Cosmo Mumba.

Dr Mumba said the minister needed to step aside and let others try to fix the economy because the UPND government promised Zambians that they would make their lives better.

He said if the president loved Zambians then he should declare their allowances and salaries to subsidise the fuel prices.

Dr Mumba said fuel prices were skyrocketing and the government was using the Russia and Ukraine war as an excuse.

“My call to Dr Musokotwane is that he should resign on moral grounds because all the promises they made are not being fulfilled and people are suffering,” he said.

Dr Mumba said people’s conditions of service were not changing but that prices of commodities were still increasing which left them dissatisfied.

He said that in other countries a Finance minister needed to step aside because prices of essential commodities had continued to go up.

Dr Mumba said Dr Musokotwane who had vast experience had misled the population on a number of issues which saw the UPND voted into power.

He also called on the head of state to show leadership by fixing the economy as he promised while in opposition. He said the government was mocking the youth by saying they did not have vehicles hence they could not feel the pinch of the fuel increase.
