TAZARA WORKERS NOT YET PAID

GOVERNMENT has admitted that it is only the Zambian side that has failed to pay TAZARA workers, as Tanzania is always on course.

Ministry of Transport and Logistics Permanent Secretary Fredrick Mwalusaka said the new dawn administration is however working round the clock to find means to ensure that the challenge was addressed.

Mr Mwalusaka said Government want to reciprocate what the Tanzanian government is doing to address the payment of TAZARA salaries.

He was addressing Crews and Allied Workers Union of Zambia (CRAWUZ), Workers Union of TAZARA (WUTAZ) and Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU).

He however assured TAZARA workers of the government’s commitment to clear the four-month salary arrears soon.

Mr Mwalusaka said the ministry is engaging the Ministry of Finance to expedite the clearing of the salary arrears.

And ZCTU Secretary General, Mukuka who was our delegation leader of the Unions appreciated the government commitment to address the challenge of payment of salaries for  TAZARA workers.

 He however  urged the Permanent Secretary to quickly ensure the four months’ salary arrears are urgently cleared as the industrial situation at TAZARA is currently volatile.

He further called on government to embrace stakeholder consultations in resolving challenges affecting TAZARA. He said what is currently happening is not conducive
