Govt set to meet creditors for second time, as Kambwili commends Govt

GOVERNMENT is expected to have the second meeting with creditors likely this month to discuss the country’s debt situation.

On Tuesday, Finance and National Planning Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane said a second meeting with official creditors to try to resolve the country’s debt crisis was likely to be held this month.

The pronouncement has cheered Patriotic Front (PF) aspiring presidential candidate Chishimba Kambwili who indicated that the move was a step in the right direction because they needed to agree on how the debt could be restructured.

Mr Kambwili said the government needed to be given a pat on the back because an agreement was needed   so that ways of repayment could be found.

“For me I support the minister 100 percent because as a country we need to agree with our creditors  so that we can agree on how our debt will be restructured,” he said.

He said that he was confident that the second meeting would yield positive results so that new modalities are put in place to repay the country’s debt.

Dr Musokotwane said the negotiations had been slow because of the large number of Zambia’s creditors.
