Efforts by Zambia’s South African multi-millionaire and philanthropist James Ndambo to reach out to President Hakainde Hichilema over his grabbed high-value motor vehicles have apparently failed.
Mr Ndambo had tasked a team to mediate with President Hichilema to negotiate the release of the seized motor vehicles.
Mr Ndambo’s properties in Choma and Lusaka were raided a week ago by the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) and about seven motor vehicles were seized on suspicion that they were acquired through proceeds of crime.
The source said the team Mr Ndambo had tasked to mediate between him and President Hichilema had hit a hard rock on the part of the head of state and that efforts to reconcile the two had irretrievably collapsed.
Mr Ndambo, known and respected for his philanthropic activities was in Zambia and hosted one of the biggest and most priced beauty pageants contest ever in the country under the banner of “My Home Town.”
Ms Mary Chirwa, the DEC director general last week denied reports that they were investigating Mr Ndambo after she had told the nation the previous day that they had instituted a probe against him.
Ms Chirwa on Monday last week confirmed to ZNBC that the DEC had raided Mr Ndambo’s properties in Choma and Lusaka and had seized seven motor vehicles including vehicles for the winners of the “My Home Town” beauty pageant.
