Quench political violence, Hichilema advised

CADERISM and political violence would soon be uncontrolled if President Hakainde Hichilema does not address the situation, veteran politician, Mwenya Musenge has said.

And Mr. Musenge has urged President Hichilema to find ways and means of healing the wounds that have been created on the Copperbelt over the just ended by-elections which he described as a sham.

Mr. Musenge said caderism and violence which seemed to have ended when the UPND formed government has resurfaced and established itself among party members after a year in leadership.

He said in an interview that the country would soon experience a situation where caderism and political violence would be uncontrolled if no immediate action was taken.

“When the UPND formed government, President Hichilema put his foot down and said no caderism, no violence just with that voice we saw this coming to an end but after a year in government we are seeing these vices resurfacing,” he said.

He said it was unfortunate that statements that incite violence were being made by some senior UPND members.

Mr. Musenge said as a result, the country was now seeing the ugly face of political violence sprouting in some parts of the country.

And Mr. Musenge has urged President Hichilema to find ways and means of healing the wounds that have been created in the people on the Copperbelt over the just ended by-elections in the province which he described as a sham.

Mr. Musenge said it was evident from the worst low turnout in the by-elections that the people on the Copperbelt were not happy in the way the UPND are running the country.
