I was invited by HH, Mafinga MP defends his Solwezi trip

By NATION REPORTER

I WAS personally invited by President Hakainde Hichilema to accompany him to Solwezi, an offer I gladly accepted because it was of national importance, embattled Mafinga Member of Parliament Robert Chabinga has said.

Mr Chabinga said that his going to the North-Western Province was not as a result working with the UPND but that his invitation came through Cabinet Office.

He said even the UPND Secretary General, Mr Batuke Imenda did not know about the invitation because it was purely a cabinet affair and not politically inclined.

“If the invitation came from UPND, I would have declined but the thing is that it was an invitation from the President himself,” he said.

Mr Chabinga said he had heard a lot of rumours that the party wanted to take action against him but that he was ready for any action as long as he was doing the right thing.

He said that he was not a sellout to the party and that people needed to know that his allegiance lies with the people of Mafinga.

He said he was a very loyal member and that he differentiated politics from service delivery and that he would do anything to ensure that the people were satisfied.

“I’m not a sellout and the party should know that but if they want to take action against me then I will be ready for them,” he said.

He said the invitation they received with his Chasefu counterpart Misheck Nyambose was special and they had no reason to turn it down.

And UPND Lusaka Province youth chairman Anderson Banda has applauded the support Mr Chawinga was giving to the government’s development programmes.

Mr Banda said politics was no longer about being an MP from the ruling or opposition party because the people who voted only want to see development brought to them.
