MUNIR ZULU COMPLAINS OVER VERBAL ABUSE IN PARLEY

By OLIVER SAMBOKO

MUNIR Zulu says he has been a victim of verbal abuse in Parliament and that Members of Parliament of the governing party have been maligning and calling him names without protection from presiding officers in the House.

“I am demeaned and members on the right call me names like rat and a small boy but no one protects me.  I was duly elected by the people of Lumezi and therefore I have the mandate to represent them without fear or intimidation,” Mr Zulu told Parliament yesterday.

Mr Zulu said he was duly elected by the people of Lumezi and therefore has the right and mandate to represent his constituency effectively without intimidation.

He said he saw no reason why he was being curtailed from debating when he had limited time to contribute to the debate, adding those against him were having their day but declared that his was certainly going to come.

Mr Zulu accused the First Deputy Speaker of not taking action on MPs from the ruling party who were demeaning him, calling him a boy but that each time he responds he was the who was always penalised and reprimanded.

But the Deputy Speaker Malungo Chisangano told Mr Zulu that all Members of Parliament were equal and that no one was targeting the Lumezi MP and that the guidance she was giving was meant for all Members of Parliament.

Meanwhile, Mr Zulu says while Home Affairs Minister Jack Mwiimbu was one of the few accommodative Ministers, he had been let down by the people he superintend over.

Mr Zulu said he had not diverted from the topic under discussion, adding that it was a pity that a mindset has been formed that whenever he was debating in Parliament, a cartel should arise.
