Kalaba questions HH’s tour of Alpha Commodities

By NATION REPORTER

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema’s tour of Alpha Commodities Limited, a company in controversies over fertiliser procurement and delivery scandals is confirmation that the Head of State is either compromised or is under state capture, Harry Kalaba has said.

Mr Kalaba, the president of Citizens’ First said President Hichilema has finally unveiled himself as a man who had either been colonised by a cartel of business corporations or was condoning corruption.

Mr Kalaba stated that it had become apparent that the Head of State was not only colonised by the big and multinational corporations but by Zambian business executives, some of whom were his friends and doing business with the UPND government.

He said in an interview that it was not surprising that the Head of State decided to pay a courtesy call on Alpha Commodities Limited because Zambians were aware that the owner of the company, was an associate of Mr Hichilema.

Government has this farming season awarded Alpha Commodities a fertiliser supply deal valued at $65 million despite accusations of graft as well as inflating of prices.

In March this year, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) instituted investigation against Alpha Commodities a company and it is not known whether the allegations were cleared by the Commission.

The investigations were instituted after the ACC had received a complaint from the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) president Kasonde Mwenda in March this year.

He said President Hichilema was merely telling Zambians that he did not care about their reservations about how he was governing the country and should therefore not be questioned about his friends.

Mr Kalaba said President Hichilema confessed during his end-of-year press conference that he was responsible for the disastrous failure of the 2022/2023 Farmer Input Support Programme and did not care about the farmers.
