By SHERRY CHABALA

A CONSORTIUM of Civil Society Organizations has urged government to expedite the process of enacting the Public Gatherings Bill, which was submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal security by the Zambia Law Development Commission.

Speaking on behalf of the Consortium, The Governance, Elections, Advocacy, Research Services- (GEARS) initiative Programs Coordinator Gideon Musonda says, there is need for all Parliamentarians to support the Bill.

He states that, Government should show the same political will, given to repealing of the defamation of President Law to the repealing of the Public order Act.

Mr. Musonda says government should indicate a clear time frame under which the Bill would be tabled in Parliament.

Meanwhile Panos Institute Southern Africa executive director Vusumuzi Sifile has advised all participants in the validation of the Bill to ensure that the will of the people is upheld as the public have invested time into the process.

And Chapter One Foundation Legal Officer Muleta Kapatiso says, views of stakeholders must be respected.
