PF UNITY KEY, SAYS GIVEN LUBINDA

By NATION REPORTER

I will not put my name in the hat for the Patriotic Front (PF) presidency because my interest is to ensure that the party bounces back with or without me at the helm as President, acting PF president Given Lubinda has said.

Mr Lubinda said there were already nine candidates vying for the PF presidency and that his joining the race would cause confusion in the opposition political party.

He said serving the people of Zambia was priority for him and it was not important for him to contest the president for the sake unity.

“I have not put my name up for presidency because for me, it is the people who matter and not me and if I try, that will cause confusion,” he said.

Mr Lubinda said that the people would decide on who should take over as party president and  he was willing to work with anyone who would be elected at the PF national convention scheduled for March this year.

Meanwhile, Mr Lubinda said former president Edgar Lungu used to consult his Cabinet, which resulted in the PF scoring a number of successes unlike what was happening now with President Hakainde Hichilema micromanaging his ministers.

He said Cabinet ministers in the new dawn Government were failing to perform because President Hichilema was in charge of everything, rendering his appointees irrelevant.

“Former Republican President Edgar Lungu used to consult widely and as ministers, we told the truth which helped him come up with proper decisions,” he said.
