THE United Party for National Development (UPND) has suspended its Kabwata Ward 5 Councillor Mainda Simataa for gross indiscipline and bringing the governing party into disrepute.
Mr Simataa has been accused by the Government party of disrespecting the Office of the Vice-President by escording flood victims to the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) for action on their displaced victims.
In a letter co-signed by Mr Saviours Ndaba, the UPND Lusaka District chairman and Ambrose Matongo, the Lusaka District Secretary, the governing party is displeased that Mr Simataa had elected to escort some displaced fold victims to DMMU for quick intervention into their plight.
But the UPND is not amused by Mr Simataa’s gesture and show of goodwill towards the residents in his ward and have decided to banish him from the party for three months.
The ruling party has described Mr Simataa’s act of care and goodwill as uncalled for and has suspended him with immediate effect for three months which suspension would be subject to review but only if the Kabwata Ward 5 civic leader could be remorseful over his conduct.
Last week, Mr Simataa led a group of Kabwata Ward 5 residents to DMMU for the purpose of demonstrating and compel the DMMU officers to respond with action to the complaints of the residents.
But the ruling party has taken offence and has told Mr Simataa that his action was out of order and misplaced meant to put the leadership into disrepute.
“You actions of 10th February, 2023 were misplaced and gross indiscipline was exhibited by yourself. DMMU is led by the Vice-President whom you showed disrespect. You ridiculed the appointing authority and also brought the name of the party into disrepute. Apart from being a Councillor, you also hold a rank in the mainstream structures of the party and are expected to both protect and defend party and government in deed and words,” Mr Ndaba and Mr Matongo said.
