HOME Affairs and Internal Security Minister Jack Mwiimbu was on Tuesday in parliament put to task over growing homosexuality parades and was at pain to explain why Government allowed Sista Sista Foundation to conduct a gay rights march past in Lusaka.

Several Members of Parliament questioned Mr Mwiimbu why the police who were offering protection to the protectors did not take action when they discovered that the organizers changed their intention to what they had indicated to the Police when obtaining permit.

But Mr Mwiimbu defended the police and stated that contrary to propaganda by the opposition that police deliberately allowed the foundation to promote homosexuality, the truth of the matter was that the Sista Sista foundation was given a go ahead following their indication that they were going to raise awareness on Women Rights and Gender Based Violence (GBV).

He said the police have so far arrested four people in connection with the march past that took place on February 4, 2023, adding that the suspects have been charged with the offence of giving false information to the police.

Mr Mwiimbu said President Hakainde Hichilema and his government had always made it clear that homosexuality had no place in Zambia and wondered why some people wanted to mislead the citizens that the new dawn administration was supporting the act.

‘’President Hichilema is a Christian who conforms to all values of Christianity and in addition, the UPND does not support gayism. Therefore, it is wrong for anyone to insinuate that government condones homosexuality,’’ Mr Mwiimbu said.

He warned members of the public against deliberately taking advantage of prevailing environment that allows for freedom of expression and assembly to break the law.

Mr Mwiimbu also said the PF should not blame the new dawn government over the creation of a special clinic for gays and lesbians at the University Teaching Hospital because it’s them who initiated it.

“PF should be the ones to tell us why they created it because they believe in gayism and wanted to protect their own,” he said.

He said those who misled the police will be brought to book according the laws of Zambia.
