THE 11 survivors of the fatal Chirundu road traffic accident which occurred on Saturday are responding well to treatment and their conditions has been described as stable
Giving an update today when Lusaka Province Minister Sheal Mulyata Sheal Mulyata visited the injured victims, UTH Adult hospital Senior Superintendent Charles Muntemba said all the patients were out of danger, including the two who are critical.
Dr. Muntemba said doctors were closely monitoring the condition of the two patients who were currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
On the condition of a 6 months old baby girl that was injured in the same accident together with its mother, Dr. Muntemba said the baby was fine and responding well to treatment.
Dr. Muntemba said the baby has a fracture on the arm but was quick to state that the injury was not life threatening.
He said that the baby is receiving the best care available from the medical staff. “The baby girl is fine and responding well to treatment. She has a fracture that can heal. Capacity of babies healing very fast is very high,” said Dr. Muntemba.
And Lusaka Province Minister Sheal Mulyata has commended the staff at the University Teaching Hospital for their care and dedication to duty.
Speaking to the media after visiting the victims, Ms. Mulyata said she was happy that all the patients were responding well to treatment. Ms Mulyata implored the health workers to continue working hard in serving the Zambian people.
“Am happy that all our patients admitted to this hospital are doing very well. I also want to commend the hospital staff for the good job they are doing,” said Ms. Mulyata.
And Ms. Mulyata has further commended health workers at UTH for maintaining high standards of cleanliness,adding that she was impressed with the clean environment around the hospital and in the wards.
“I want to commend you for keeping the hospital clean. This is good for both the workers and patients,” said Ms. Mulyata.
And Ms. Mulyata also sent her message of condolences to the bereaved families, who lost their relatives in the accident that claimed 24 lives.
“I wish to convey our heartfelt condolences to all the families that lost their beloved ones in the fatal Chirundu road traffic accident over the weekend,” she said.
On Saturday morning, 24 people died while 11 others survived with serious multiple body injuries after a Mitsubishi Rosa bus they were traveling in was involved in an accident on the Chirundu/ Kafue road at a place called Kapiringozi.
