ZAMBIA Must Prosper Party (ZMP) president Kelvin Fube Bwalya (KBF) has urged the President Hakainde Hichilema government to desist from labelling civil servants with political party affiliations as this is demotivating and creating tension in the civil service.

In his Labour Day message, Mr Fube said government needed to use the May Day to assure civil servants of protection from political harassment and name calling so that they could focus on service delivery to the citizens.

He said Zambia needed a committed and motivated workforce now more than ever before to pull the country from the economic doldrums it was currently in, unlike the trend it had witnessed where civil servants and other professionals were being harassed even arrested on numerous allegations including tribe appointment reasons.

Mr. Bwalya said this year’s May Day theme: “Accelerating Job creation for economic growth,” would remain on paper if workers both in the public and private sectors continued to operate in unconducive environments which hamper full participation and commitment to work.

Mr Bwalya added that Government should also cushion workers from the harsh economic situation by awarding them decent living wages as many were failing to make ends meet.

He said in the same spirit of addressing the worker’s plight, Government must without further delay unlock the impediments surrounding Konkola Copper Mines and Mopani so that the anxiety of the thousands of workers was eased.

Mr. Bwalya urged Government to release the names of successful candidates who applied for the available spaces in the Zambia Army, Zambia Air Force and Zambia National Service to cushion the increasing youth unemployment in the country.
