SURVIVAL SCRAPS – as Nkwazi, Lumwana or Rangers fight relegation on final day?

By MICHAEL MIYOBA

WHILE champions elect Power Dynamos are expected to receive a guard of honour at Nkoloma Stadium today for owning the 2022-2023 FAZ Super League season, the battle for survival between Nkwazi, Lumwana Radiants and Nchanga Rangers intensifies on the final day with all the three teams searching for nothing but victories.

Going into their Week-34 FAZ Super League action, Nkwazi who are 14th on the log with 36 points are hosting their seniors Green Eagles at Edwin Imboela Stadium in Lusaka in a match which promises sparks.

The last time the two service clubs faced off in Choma, the intriguing fixture produced no victor as both sides shared the points after a 1-1 stalemate.

After picking only two points from the last four games, Nkwazi coach Osward Mutapa will pray that his charges led by experienced striker Justine Shonga will grind the needed victory to guarantee the Zambia Police-sponsored outfit’s survival.

Nchanga Rangers who are also on 36 points but are on 15th position due to an inferior goal difference of negative 11 goals, are welcoming Kabwe Warriors who have nothing to lose at Nchanga Stadium in Chingola while Lumwana Radiants are hosting ABSA Cup losing finalists Muza FC.

Nchanga Rangers will seek to avenge the 2-1 defeat suffered when they visited Kabwe in December last year while Lumwana, who are winless in the last six games where they picked one defeat and five draws will aim to complete a double over a Muza FC side which they thumped 2-1 in Mazabuka.

Victories on the final day of the Super League for Nchanga Rangers and Lumwana Radiants will not be enough to secure survival if Nkwazi beat Green Eagles.

With all the matches set to kick off at the same time, it will be interesting to learn of the “last man standing” after the final whistle as the Super League season ends today.

Meanwhile, dethroned champions Red Arrows will agonisingly give away their crown to the new kings of Zambian football Power Dynamos who they will face in the final league fixture at Nkoloma Stadium.

In other Super League matches scheduled for the final day, Green Buffaloes and Sensational Zanaco FC will square off in a Midland’s derby scheduled for Woodlands Stadium in Lusaka while relegated Chambishi and Buildcon will play their last fixture of the season at Chambishi Stadium as they both say goodbye to Super League football.

At Nkana Stadium in Kitwe, Nkana will welcome Kansanshi Dynamos while Prison Leopards will fight to avenge the 4-1 beating by Napsa Stars when they host the pensioners at President Stadium in Kabwe.

Fresh from winning the ABSA Cup last weekend, Forest Rangers and Zesco United will clash in a Ndola derby to determine who claims the bragging rights.
