…as Defending champions Power Dynamos shock Kansansi Dynamos

By MICHAEL MIYOBA

UNDER fire Green Eagles coach Alex Namazaba who was given a three-game ultimatum was able to breathe a sigh of relief as his charges came from behind to beat Forest Rangers 2-1 in a Week-7 MTN Super League fixture at Independence Stadium in Choma.

A brace from Cameroonian striker Freddy Michael rescued Eagles from suffering a fourth consecutive defeat to move out of the relegation zone on the Super League table.

Forest Rangers were able take the lead through a great shot by Jack Chirwa who scored his first goal in Malembe colors after his switch from Green Buffaloes.

However, four minutes before the half hour mark, Freddy Michael equalized for Eagles. The Cameroonian had to wait for eight minutes to complete his brace and give Eagles the needed win to move to 11th position with eight points.

Meanwhile, defending champions Power Dynamos escalated to fourth on the MTN Super League table after coming from behind to beat Kansanshi Dynamos 3-1 at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.

A brace from midfielder Salulani Phiri and a goal from speedy winger Joshua Mutale handed the Kitwe giants the win which propelled them to 12 points.

Midfielder Marvin Jere had given Kansanshi Dynamos the lead after benefiting from Rodgers Lukonde’s assist 18 minutes into the first stanza.

However, after a disappointing first half, Power Dynamos grabbed the equalizer just two minutes into the second half thanks to Phiri who pounced on a rebound after Andy Boyeli’s attempt from a penalty was saved by goal keeper Philip Sakauta.

Power were rewarded a penalty after defender Marcel Kalonda had handled the ball inside the 18-yard box.

Three minutes before the hour mark, Power Dynamos went ahead thanks to Joshua Mutale’s strike. Power extended their lead ten minutes before the last whistle as Salulani Phiri completed his brace to give the Kitwe giants their third win of the season.

At Edwin Imboela Stadium in Lusaka, Peter Mwangeni scored a late equalizer and rescued High Flying Nkwazi from picking their second defeat of the season.

Mwangeni cancelled out Francis Mustafa’s first half goal for the Bankers for the two rivals to share the points following a 1-1 stalemate.

At Woodlands Stadium in Lusaka, NAPSA Stars came from behind to overcome Mutondo Stars in a five-goal thriller which ended 3-2 in favor of the Pensioners.
