…as Kansanshi Dynamos slaughter ‘Airmen’

NDOLA giants Zesco United opened a two -points lead at the summit of the MTN Zambia Super League table after coming from behind to beat struggling Nkana FC 3-1 in a closely contested clash of the titans played at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

A goal from Abraham Siankombo and a second half brace from Enock Sakala handed George Lwandamina’s charges the victory which propelled them to 25 points on the Super League table.
Nkana had started the Week-13 fixture on a positive note and went ahead five minutes into the first half through Harison Chisala who converted a penalty won after defender Mathews Chabala was deemed to have handled the ball in the box.
Zesco came close to cancelling Nkana’s early lead 10 minutes before the half hour mark but goal keeper Mangani Banda produced a fine save to deny Siankombo from finding the back of the net.
Banda could however not stop the former Sensational Zanaco winger from levelling matters in the dying minutes of the first half with a sublime free kick from a difficult angle.
Zesco United took their first lead through Sakala who headed in Kelvin Kampamba’s free kick outside the Nkana box seven minutes after the hour mark.
Sakala made the game beyond reach for the Kitwe giants as he completed his brace, beating Banda with a low shot from close range in the fourth minute of injury time.
Nkana remain second from bottom after the latest defeat, their eighth of the season after 13 games where they have recorded two wins and three draws.
Meanwhile, High Flying Nkwazi FC flew to second on the MTN Zambia Super League table after coming from behind to record a 1-1 stalemate with Trident FC in a Week-13 fixture which was played over two days at Edwin Imboela Stadium in Lusaka.
The match which was halted on Saturday due to heavy rains with the scores reading 1-1 at half time resumed on Sunday morning.
In the first half of the match played on Saturday, Stephani Mutama scored the equaliser four minutes before the break to cancel Fred Mwiche’s goal which had given Trident the lead in the third minute.
The second half which was played yesterday produced no goals as the two sides shared the points after a 1-1 stalemate which moved Nkwazi to 23 points.
At Nchanga Stadium in Chingola, former champions Red Arrows missed a chance to maintain top spot after allowing Kansanshi Dynamos to came from behind to beat the Airmen 2-1.
Arrows had scored an early lead through Rick Banda who was fortunate to benefit from James Chamanga’s assist.
However, Kansanshi drew level in the last minute of the first stanza thanks to Yanganile Tembo who was quick to react and slot the ball in the back of the net after winger Jimmy Mukeya hit the upright with a sublime shot.
With only a minute into the second half, striker Davy Daka doubled Kansanshi Dynamos lead after benefitting from another assist from Jimmy Mukeya.
Daka’s goal proved to be the winner as Kansanshi Dynamos moved to 12th on the log with 15 points while Arrows dropped to third with 22 points.
At Edwin Imboela Stadium in Lusaka, Green Buffaloes were held to a goalless stalemate by Mutondo Stars who propelled their winless streak to five games.
