ZAMBIA’s promising young boxer David ‘Sniper’ Mwale says his ambition is to become a World Champion after winning the Africa Boxing Union (ABU) Bantamweight title following the beating of South Africa’s Innocent Mantengu.

After an intriguing 12 rounds bout which was characterized with hefty punches at Government Complex, Mwale was crowned ABU Bantamweight king, outclassing Mantengu on a unanimous points decision.

Mwale who is under the wings of experienced Oriental Queries Boxing Promotions coach Mike Zulu said he would return to the gym soon to continue working hard for his next fight.

“My target, I want to become a world champion, that’s my target and next week I’m back in the gym because I will need to continue working hard to be a world champion,” Mwale said after the fight.

He noted that winning the ABU title would motivate him to work harder.

Mwale hailed sponsors such as Castlebet who rewarded him with a K10,000 cash prize for winning the ABU Bantamweight title.

Mwale had dominated the fight from the first round  as Mantengu took a defensive approach from the first round but survived the 12 rounds, only to lose on unanimous decision.

Ministry of Youth Sports and Arts Permanent Secretary Kangwa Chileshe and National Sports Council of Zambia acting General Secretary Raphael Mulenga witnessed the full fight which amazed spectators who had trooped to Government complex to witness Mwale make history.

Kangwa congratulated Oriental Queries management led by Chris Malunga for hosting an exciting international championship which featured over eight  foreign boxers from South Africa Malawi and Zimbabwe.
