ZAMBIA Postal Services Corporation (Zampost) has disclosed that in the next 14 days, it will be launching an e-commerce platform, Zampost Soweto, an online market place where local buyers and local sellers would connect to conduct business transactions.

Zampost yesterday launched its 2023-2027 strategic plan which will see it embark on a broad journey of transformation and embracing digitalisation to redefine postal services for the 21st century by venturing into E-commerce platforms, Zampost Soweto, ZaZam and the implementation of the government service bus through Smart Zambia.

Speaking at the launch, Ministry of Technology and Science Permanent Secretary, Dr. Brilliant Habeenzu said Zampost should not be limited to providing government services alone but should diversify to other services that are offered by the private sector so that all citizens can find it easy to access some services.

Dr. Habeenzu said the strategic plan outlines key milestones that would not only make Zampost operate as an efficient institution but also attain excellence in the delivery of its mandate.

He said the mode of operations had changed because people no longer transport mails and packages as it used to be in the past by walking to the post office because the world had gone digital.

And Zampost Board chairperson, Beene Siyumbwa said the company had put up strategic pillars that would serve as cornerstones of their vision, which included financial growth, capacity and stability.

Ms. Siyumbwa said in a rapidly evolving economic landscape like Zambia, financial stability was imperative and their focus was on bolstering their financial foundation, fostering growth and ensuring stability to withstand against the challenges.

Meanwhile, acting Postmaster General, Chewe Puta said the operations of the Zampost Soweto would lead to the creation of 30, 000 direct and indirect jobs.

Mr Puta said Zazam E-commerce was a Zampost strategic collaboration with a South African company, which had established a drop shipping courier services reaching borders between South Africa and Zambia by offering cross border shopping experience.

“It will be having your own Zampost person in South Africa running around for you and reducing the hustles that you have in terms of cross border trade,” Mr Puta said.
