FATHER Leonard Chiti, Provincial of the Southern Africa Province of the Society of Jesus, has expressed profound sorrow at the death of Fr. Alexander Muyebe, SJ, the Director of the Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection (JCTR) in Zambia. Fr. Muyebe, aged 56, died after an illness.“It is with a deep sense of loss and sorrow that we announce the passing of Fr. Alexander Muyebe, SJ, Director of the Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection (JCTR) in Zambia,” Fr. Chiti said.“Fr. Muyebe was a dedicated member of the Southern Africa Province of the Society of Jesus and faithfully served as a priest for 21 years.”Fr. Chiti said Fr. Muyebe had left a significant mark on the Zambian landscape especially his role at JCTR.“Fr. Muyebe was born in Malawi and served in the Society of Jesus for more than two decades, but it was his role as the director of JCTR that left a significant mark on Zambia. Over the past four years, he became widely known for his tireless advocacy for social justice and the rights of marginalised communities,” Fr Chiti saidHe said his leadership at JCTR was defined by his deep commitment to the values of faith, justice, and intellectual engagement with pressing societal issues.“Fr. Muyebe’s leadership was marked by a profound commitment to faith, justice, and intellectual engagement with critical societal issues,” Fr. Chiti noted. “He became a beacon of hope, tirelessly working for social justice across Zambia, and strengthening JCTR’s impact in policy advocacy and public engagement.”Under Fr. Muyebe’s leadership, JCTR gained greater visibility and influence in Zambia’s public life, particularly in advocating for policies that support the poor and vulnerable. “His work reflected the Jesuit mission of compassion and solidarity, with a clear focus on transforming communities through the promotion of justice,” Fr. Chiti said.“His life embodied the Jesuit mission to serve with compassion and solidarity, reflecting our commitment to justice and the transformation of communities,” Fr. Chiti added.He stated that the legacy of Fr. Muyebe will live on, as his works touched several people across the country.Fr. Chiti also extended his deepest condolences to Fr. Muyebe’s family, friends, and colleagues at JCTR, acknowledging the immense loss they have all suffered.“On behalf of the Southern Africa Province, I extend our deepest condolences to Fr.
