Mr. Emmanuel Mwamba

By NATION REPORTER

BOWMAN Lusambo was not hiding in the ceiling of his house when the Zambia Police raided his house searching for him after the magistrate court in Luanshya issued a bench warrant after his conviction, Emmanuel Mwamba has revealed.

Mr Mwamba, the Patriotic Front (PF) information and publicity chairperson has now challenged the Zambia Police to show proof that they had to extract Mr Lusambo from a ceiling in his house.

Mr Mwamba has said the picture the police had been circulating on social media purporting to that of Mr Lusambo in the ceiling was in fact from the United Kingdom and was taken about six years ago. Mr Mwamba revealed that the police found Mr Lusambo at his home and was not hiding as claimed by Rae Hamoonga, the Zambia Police spokesperson.

Mr Lusambo was on Friday picked by the police from his Chamba Valley home and is at Chilenje Police Station after he was convicted by the Luanshya Magistrate Court for unlawful wounding.

Magistrate Penistone Chiluba delivered the judgement in Lusambo’s absence, but in the presence of his surety, prompting the immediate issuance of a bench warrant for his arrest.

But Mr Mwamba has however said it was propaganda to accuse Mr Lusambo of having attempted to elude the police by hiding in the ceiling to avoid arrest.

Mr Mwamba stated that the story that Mr Lusambo was hiding in the ceiling was nothing but propaganda meant to embarrass and humiliate him. “The Zambia Police issued a statement that was immediately accompanied by a picture of a person climbing down from a ceiling, a picture we have verified as an old image from a publication from United Kingdom,” Mr Mwamba said.

He said it was saddening that Mr Lusambo’s workers workers were beaten and locked up alongside with him, stating that the manner in which the matter had been handled left much to be desired.

Mr Mwamba said Mr Lusambo’s conviction was also suspicious as he was not present in court when the verdict was pronounced.

“When Chishimba Kambwili was involved in an accident that saw the demise of Mutale and Mwamba Kambwili, the Police issued a statement claiming that the accident was as a result of excessive speeding, when in fact it was as a result of a tyre burst.

He explained that Mr Lusambo’s house in fact has a concrete ceiling and it was therefore a total fabrication by the police that the former Lusaka Province Minister was hiding in the ceiling of his house when the police arrived at his home.
