…Saboi Imboela says while the electoral body itself is innocent, those presiding over it are partisan and known sympathisers of UPND thereby making the institution not credible, believes Zambians will by all means remove the new dawn from power in 2026 come what may.

By NATION REPORTER

THE Electoral Commission of Zambia in its current partisan state is incapable of presiding over free, fair and credible elections and Zambians should continue demanding for the dissolution to avoid political instability after the 2026 general election, says Saboi Imboela.
Ms Imboela, the president of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is calling for the removal of Mwangala Zaloumis, the ECZ chairperson and other politically inclined officials because they are undermining the credibility of the electoral process.
Speaking in an interview yesterday, Ms Imboela accused the ECZ management of aligning itself with the ruling UPND, saying their conduct has already raised serious doubts about its neutrality ahead of the 2026 general elections.
“The ECZ with its partisan leadership has been on a path to technically knock out anyone or anything from the opposition.
They keep changing rules on a daily basis. They no longer exist to do the right thing but to mess up Zambia’s democracy,” Ms Imboela charged.
She said while the ECZ, as an institution may be innocent, those in charge were known sympathisers of the UPND and therefore could not be trusted to deliver free and fair elections.
“Zambians may be quiet now, but I can assure you that they no longer want UPND and at the right time, they will speak out through the ballot. Zambians will remove UPND no matter how partisan ECZ is,” she said.

Ms Imboela said the situation called for immediate reform at the ECZ to safeguard national unity and democratic integrity, stating, “It is time that people at ECZ were removed so the country’s unity and democracy are maintained.”
She also urged the opposition to remain united and focused on fielding a strong and credible presidential candidate to face President Hakainde Hichilema in 2026.
“The opposition need to give Zambians a clear picture of who their preferred candidate is. But whichever way, the opposition candidate will win,” Ms Imboela said.
Ends.
