Construction engineers launch diploma qualification programm

THE National Council for Construction (NCC) has introduced two new diploma programmes – the Diploma in Highway Engineering and the Diploma in Building Construction Works Monitoring and Management – aimed at addressing the shortage of specialised skills in the country’s construction industry.
Speaking during the launch, NCC board chairperson, Engineer Ngenda Situmbeko, said the programmes are designed to close the gap in the availability of technicians and supervisors with practical expertise.
Eng. Situmbeko noted that the initiative particularly seeks to empower small and medium enterprises (SMEs), with a special focus on increasing the participation of women and youth in the construction sector.
“The programmes are structured to deliver practical training that meets international standards and responds directly to industry needs,” Eng. Situmbeko said. He said NCC will continue strengthening collaborations with institutions such as TEVETA, universities and industry associations to ensure the courses remain relevant and effective.And Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Acting Permanent Secretary, Denis Siampwizi, said the programmes are tailored to bridge the gap between engineers and artisans by producing highly skilled technicians and supervisors.
Mr. Siampwizi explained that the courses are industry-driven, practical in design, and intended to prepare students for both current and emerging challenges in the construction sector.
