Zambia slide 2 places on FIFA rankings

ZAMBIA has sunk to an all-time low in FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking.

According to the latest rankings released yesterday, Zambia recently beaten 2-0 by Morocco in a World Cup qualifier in Ndola, are ranked 85th in the world and 12th in Africa.

The Chipolopolo have slipped two places while  Morocco (11th, up 1) now lead the chasing pack outside the top 10, having triumphed in eight of their nine matches since the last edition of the ranking in July.

Senegal, despite sliding by a place are second in Africa but 19th globally while Egypt are third in Africa (32nd in the world) followed by Algeria (three places down, 39th on the globe).

Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Tunisia, Cameroon, South Africa and Mali are in the top 10 bracket in Africa lying 44th, 45th, 47th, 52nd, 55th and 56th globally.

And having all shot at least five places up the standings, The Gambia (115th, up 8), Madagascar (108th, up 7), Paraguay (37th, up 6), Uganda (82nd, up 6), Libya (112th, up 5), are the main other movers and shakers in Africa. The highest-profile change has seen UEFA EURO 2024 winners Spain rising one place to first, a mark they have not occupied in the men’s game since back in June 2014.

In the process, they have dethroned long-standing leaders Argentina (3rd, down 2), who had occupied the position since April 2023.
