UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) Secretary General Batuke Imenda has warned the party leadership in Central Province that their structures risk being dissolved if they fail to mobilise people ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Speaking when he addressed the provincial leadership in Kabwe District on Saturday, Mr. Imenda expressed disappointment over reports of low mobilisation levels in the province.
“I am not going to remain Secretary General while provincial leaders hold positions without working. If you fail to mobilise, I will dissolve your committee as I have done elsewhere,” Mr. Imenda warned.
He urged the Central Province leadership to emulate other regions that have shown strong mobilisation efforts.
“Western, Copperbelt, and Eastern provinces are leading in mobilisation. Central Province must follow suit,” he said.
Mr. Imenda reminded party officials that winning the 2021 elections was not the end of the journey but the beginning of a continuous mission to consolidate support for President Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND at all levels.
“Our goal is not just for President Hichilema to win in 2026, but to secure victory for our MPs, mayors, council chairpersons, and councillors,” he said.
He further urged party leaders to promote inclusivity and unity by embracing new members rather than side-lining them.
“Let us accommodate everyone. Strengthen grassroots structures because that is where mobilisation begins,” Mr. Imenda advised.
The Secretary General also directed members to ensure that their families register to vote.
“If we love President Hichilema and the UPND, let’s make sure our families register to vote. Every leader must carry their voter’s card to every meeting,” he directed.
Highlighting some of the achievements of the New Dawn Administration, Mr. Imenda said UPND leaders must communicate the government’s progress to the public.“The Free Education Policy has enabled over 2.2 million pupils to return to school. We have reintroduced student meal allowances in public universities, increased the Constituency Development Fund for community projects and youth skills training, and we are reviving Mulungushi Textiles to benefit over 35,000 cotton farmers,” he said.
