CORRUPTION allegations involving Kabwe Municipal Council management that the council’s earth moving equipment is being abused  has angered the area member of Parliament Tutwa Ngulube.

Mr. Ngulube who on Saturday launched the road rehabilitation exercise in his constituency expressed anger at the refusal by the local authority to release the graders and tippers which he alleged had been hired out to a private entity currently building a shopping mall on the Great North road.

“I am very disappointed with the council for failure to release the grader which was bought using constituency development funds because they have hired it out to a private contractor who is building a shopping mall at Mulungushi, and they are making money for themselves,” said Mr. Ngulube. The law maker who is PF legal counsel asked the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) to investigate if there was any contract and tender procedures followed when releasing the graders.

“I am writing to the Anti corruption commission to investigate the matter and make sure the culprits are brought to book and punished. I am also going to raise this matter in parliament because I am also told that one of the graders is down and so will need public resources to repair but for as long as I remain MP for this constituency for the next five years, I will not allow that,” said the visibly annoyed MP.

Council spokesperson Annie Mumba and Town clerk Ronald Daka could not be immediately reached for a comment. However, Mr. Ngulube vowed to complete the road rehabilitation exercise in the constituency  to lessen the hardships faced by motorists.

He said that so far he had spent in excess of K100,000 for the 10 kilometres works and that his next item on the priority list would be sinking of boreholes and ensuring good water reticulation system in line with the campaign promises. And some residents found at the site thanked the law maker for the initiative to work on the roads especially Metcalf road in town centre which was almost impassable.
