THE United Bank of Africa (UBA) has donated K2.6 million to Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) for the fight against Coronavirus pandemic.
UBA Board Chairperson, Abel Ng’andu, said he was confident that the donation would go a long way in providing the much-needed financial support to the Government to help get medical supplies.
He was speaking when he made a donation yesterday.
“UBA has donated K2,650,000 to Government through the office of the Vice President. It will go a long way in providing financial support towards the fight against COVID-19,” he said.
Mr Ng’andu commended Government for the tireless efforts being made to fight the spread of Coronavirus.
“We are here to offer financial support as a collective effort to fight this global pandemic called COVID-19 to ensure that response to the pandemic is swift and effective,” Mr Ng’andu said.
Mr Ng’andu assured Government that UBA, as a local partner, would rise to the occasion to supplement Government efforts to fight natural disasters and pandemics.
He has also encourage members of the public to practice social distancing on order to stop the spread of the pandemic.
“As we join this fight against the deadly Coronavirus we wish to encourage members of the general to stay safe by practising social distance, adopting good hygiene practices and other measures as announced by government,” he said.
And receiving the donation, Minister in the office of the Vice President, Olipa Phiri, commended UBA for supplementing Government in the fight against Coronavirus diseases.
“It is gratifying that a good number of partners including the United Bank of Africa have come on board to support this fight against the coronavirus,” Ms Phiri said.
The Minister urged Zambians to observe all preventive measures as announced by the Ministry of Health.
