THERE was laughter in a Lusaka local court when a woman said that her husband who took to the bottles enters the house naked from their bathroom which is outside.

This was in a case in which Christine Mutale, 30, of Kanyama Site and Service sued her husband, Gift Mufalari, 30, for divorce alleging that he drinks too much.

However, Mufalari said that he still loves his wife.  The two got married in 2013 and have one child.

Mutale told Senior Court Magistrate Mubukwanu Matakala sitting with Magistrates Abbyshine Michelo and Esther Mulomba at Kanyama Local Court that Mufalari drinks alcoholic spirits (juntas) excessively.

She said sometimes her husband arrived home very drunk and when she gave him water for bathing he would return from the bathroom outside the house naked. “Sometimes kind people bring Mufalari home because of failing to walk. I was advised to take him for prayers because he was suspected to have a demon for drinking. I fail to sleep because sometimes he wants to hit me with an iron bar,’’ said Mutale. Mutale said that they sat several times to resolve the matter but to no avail.

In defence, Mufalari said that he was surprised to be brought to court because they resolved the matter at home.

He explained that Mutale made mistakes and he listened but when he erred, she would create a mountain out of a mall.

The court asked Mutale if she could give Mufalari a second chance, but she maintained that she wanted a divorce.

However when the matter came for judgement, Mutale changed her mind and said that she was ready to give Mufalari another chance.

Magistrate Matakala reconciled the couple and told Mufalalri to go for deliverance prayers and that his habit of walking about naked could have him arrested for indecent exposure. He said that if Mufalari did not change in the next 30 days she should go back to court.
