…it’s now futile, that man is unrepentant

By Sandra Machima and Aaron Chiyanzo

CALLS for dialogue between President Edgar Lungu and UPND’s Hakainde Hichilema, are pointless and should be cancelled because the opposition leader is still unrepentant and loyal only to foreign entities and not Zambia or the people as revealed by his recent ranting in South Africa.

And former UPND vice president for politics, Canisius Banda has charged that Mr Hichilema is an enemy of Zambia as no well-meaning person can go to another country and team up with agents of imperialism and speak ill of his country.

Zambia Republic Party leader, Wright Musoma and former UPND vice president told the Daily Nation in separate interviews that Mr Hichilema was not loyal to Zambia or its people because he chose to disparage his own country at a platform in South Africa sponsored by agents of imperialism.

Mr Musoma said calls for reconciliation and dialogue between the Patriotic Front and the opposition UPND will be baseless because the people behind it are sympathizers of Hakainde Hichilema, who also shows too much arrogance.

He said now that the negotiators appeared to have scored for Mr Hichilema, it was evident enough that the reconciliation would be a waste of time.

Dr. Banda explained that such unwarranted conduct undermined the country’s sovereignty as well as the people.

Dr. Banda said that anyone who teams up with elements of imperialism and speaks ill of his country is an enemy of the State.

Mr Musoma said it was hoped that the dialogue between the two political parties was done in good faith and for the benefit of the Zambian, but instead was aimed at satisfying certain individuals.

He told the Daily Nation that Zambians were taken for a ride and that this should not be tolerated on grounds that the UPND had for several times wanted to test the patience of Zambians in a bid to please their masters.

Mr Musoma cautioned Zambians to be wary and be able to read between the lines, saying President Edgar Lungu’s patience and humility was put to test.

He appealed to other stakeholders and the people of Zambia not to allow some individuals to dent the image of the country, saying his party would mobilise various well-meaning Zambians to ensure no reconciliation and dialogue would take place aimed at benefiting some individuals.

“There will be no more reconciliation because it appears as if the negotiators have played it smart, because they have accomplished their agenda.

“This must stop and we are not going to sit down and watch the innocent Zambians being taken for granted in the name of peaceful nation. That is why they say evil wins when good people do nothing for the wrongs they do,” he said.

Mr Musoma alleged that the cartel was igniting all the plans to frustrate Zambians, warning that their days were numbered and would have themselves to blame.

And Dr. Banda noted that to speak ill of one’s country when in another country, in the presence of agents of imperialism, prejudice and sectarian dominance, was treacherous.

Dr. Banda charged that anyone guilty of such shameful and unpatriotic conduct should be viewed as an enemy of the State and must be treated as such.

He pointed out that the lack of integrity and dignity in political endeavors would never produce an outcome of integrity and dignity.

“No Zambian should go overseas, to another country, whilst there team up with elements of imperialism and speak ill of his country.

“To speak ill about one’s country when in another country, in the presence of agents of imperialism, prejudice and sectarian dominance, is treacherous and undermines our sovereignty as a people,” Dr. Banda said.

He advised people never to team up with the very forces that perennially seek to deny them liberty and prosperity.

Dr. Banda said Zambia was not a dictatorship and that citizens should never demonize it especially among forces that shackled the country in the past, for solace when aggrieved.

He emphasized that Zambia’s democracy was exemplary and that it was a model for study and emulation both on the continent of Africa and beyond.

Dr. Banda reiterated that Zambia was a freer society and much more prosperous today than in its entire history.

Zambia’s democracy is infantile, it is growing very well, and only requires improvement and consolidation upon the gains so far made.
