…the duo allegedly beat up a fan after Power’s lose to blades

By Michael Miyoba

THE Zambia Football Fans Association (ZAFFA) has condemned the behavior exhibited by Power Dynamos players Alex Ngo’nga and Luka Lungu who allegedly beat up a fan after Power Dynamos’ 1-0 loss to Konkola Blades at Konkola Stadium last Saturday.

ZAFFA General Secretary Katwizi Chawezi said the two players’ behavior should not be tolerated.

Chawezi said it was wrong for Ngo’nga, who plays for the Zambia national team, and his colleague to attack a fan despite being provoked.

He said there is need for players to tolerate fans who provoke them and coaches when a team does not perform well.

“It is very disappointing to see Ng’onga, one of the senior players in the MTN/FAZ Super division, to exhibit such behavior. As ZAFFA we are shocked that a player of Ngonga’s caliber would reduce himself to such conduct, which has the potential to dent his career,” Chawezi said.

Chawezi has since called on the Chipolopolo striker to remain disciplined as he is a trend setter looked up to by many young people.

He said there was need for players to supplement soccer’s unifying factor as opposed to promoting violence at the stadia.

“Sport is a unifying factor, which brings people from different societies together. Therefore there is need for players to maintain discipline because violent conduct dents their image. Ng’onga and his colleague should therefore remain focused as fans will always be fans. Power Dynamos should also talk to their players on how to conduct themselves…” Chawezi said.

Meanwhile Power Dynamos club secretary Ricky Manfunda said the club has not received any report on the allegations that the two assaulted a fan.

Manfunda told the Daily Nation in interview that the club will take action if it is proved that the players were at fault.

“As a club we haven’t received any complaint. What you know is also what we know based on what we have read online that a docket has been opened against our players. We will take action when it is proven but at the moment we know nothing because no formal complaint has been made,” Manfunda said.
