By JUSTINA MULENGA

A 34- year-old accountant and Trainee Credit Manager at Zambia Breweries Plc, yesterday pleaded not guilty to 90 counts including fraudulent false accounting and theft involving over K2.4 million.

In this matter, Geophrey Mulenga Chanda, 34, of Solwezi was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Commission and charged with 90 counts for fraudulent false accounting and theft involving over K 2.4 million.

When the matter came up before magistrate Greenwell Malumani, the accused pleaded not guilty to all the 90 counts.

Chanda is allegedly charged with 21 counts of Fraudulent False Account contrary to Section 326 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia and 69 Counts of Theft by Servant contrary to Section 272 as read with Section 278 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Particulars are that Chanda, on unknown dates but between September 1, 2012 and September 30, 2013 in Lusaka, being Trainee Credit Manager at Zambia Breweries Plc, with intent to defraud, falsified client accounts in the Zambia Breweries client account system known as SYSPRO purporting to show that a certain Atheneon Engineering Limited transferred various amounts totaling 1,063,687.02 to Kanongolo General Dealers and Santa-Flo General Dealers when in fact not.

It is further alleged that Chanda, being Trainee Credit Manager at Zambia Breweries Plc, stole a total sum of 1,435,800.00 from Zambian Breweries Plc, which came into his possession on account of Zambian Breweries Plc.

The matter has since been adjourned to February 23, 2018 for mention and March 19, 20, and 21, 2018 as trial dates.
