…Don’t wash dirty linen in public

By AARON CHIYANZO AND CHITE MTONGA

MATERO Member of Parliament, Lloyd Kaziya should desist from washing dirty linen in public as the adverse effects of such actions affect the party as a whole, founding member of the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) Edwin Lifwekelo has charged.

And Mr Lifwekelo has advised the Matero constituency lawmaker, Mr Kaziya and other aggrieved PF members to follow laid down procedures to deal with issues.

He was reacting to claims by Mr Kaziya that some councilors in his constituency had been illegally creating plots on road reserves.

The accusations incensed the councilors who have since challenged the Member of Parliament to point out individual civic leaders he was referring to.

“What I have discovered is that some councillors are the ones illegally giving away road reserves. Some are corruptly conniving with unscrupulous council officers to sell off the reserves,” said Mr Kaziya.

Mr Lifwekelo however advised Mr Kaziya never to wash dirty linen in public as there were other amicable ways of sorting out such issues.

He explained that his primary concern was that such accusations had the potential to tarnish the image of the party as a whole.

Mr Lifwekelo pointed out that Mr Kaziya should have reported the issue to the senior leadership of the party before spelling the beans.

“In as much as we don’t support illegality as a party, it is wrong to wash dirty linen in public. Our party has got channels of airing and resolving such issues. Such accusations have bad effects on the party,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mr Lifwekelo advised Mr Kaziya to engage his councilors and see how best such issues could be resolved.

He warned that there could not be proper development in any constituency if the area MP was not in good books with councilors.

Mr Lifwekelo explained that councilors were the number one monitors of developmental projects within He advised Mr  Kaziya to stop behaving like a ceremonial member of parliament who has no idea of  ethics that govern the Patriotic Front.

He said the duty of MPs was to oversee happenings in constituency’s and Mr Kaziya had shamelessly failed as he had failed to address issues of public concern such as illegal allocation of land with his councilors.
