A COMBINED inspection team from the Consumer Competition and Protection Commission (CCPC) and Lusaka City Council (LCC) has seized 220 packets of expired milk powder from Creamland in Lusaka.
An investigation has since been instituted in the seized cargo which is worth K9, 920.
CCPC public relations officer Twaambo Chula, said that Land Cream risked being penalised if found guilty of misleading the consumers.
Mr. Chula explained after the seizure of the assorted boxes yesterday, the CCPC was tipped off by a Cream Land customer, prompting the two institutions to move in and seize the milk.
He further explained that Land Cream management changed the expiry date which was for November 2017 and replaced it with another date.
“A sample that we got from shops showed that there was an original expiry date on the label but then you can also see that the original was scraped off and this is against the law,
“What is happening is that there is an element of misleading which is happening where consumers are not given the opportunity to know the exact data of the product and so such a conduct is misleading under the CCPC Act no 24 of 2010,” he said.
Mr. Chula said they have since instituted an investigation in the matter and the samples had been submitted to the food and Drugs Laboratory for further assessment to establish the quality and safety of the product in the market.
