CONSTRUCTION of the K350, 000 ablution block at Lusaka’s old Ngoma market Justine Kabwe ward 21 in Matero Constituency will address sanitary conditions and water borne diseases, says Lusaka Mayor Wilson Kalumba

Speaking during the ground breaking ceremony of the construction of the ablution block yesterday, Mr Kalumba said that the local authority engaged Hemings Construction Limited to carry out the construction.

Mr Kalumba said Lusaka City Council (LCC) was committed to delivering quality services to residents of the city, adding that the construction of the ablution block was another milestone which the local authority had recorded.

In a speech read by his deputy, Chilando Chitangala, Mr Kalumba said the promises made by his councilors during the run-up to the 2016 elections to deliver quality services to the people were being fulfilled through the many programmes being implemented in various wards of the city. He said since he assumed office in 2016 his council through the ward leadership had implemented the Smart Environment Ambassadors which has recorded minimised unlawful dumping of waste.

“As a council we are committed to ensuring that we deliver quality municipal services to the residents and our coming here is to commence works on the construction of an ablution block to ease sanitation challenges that we are faced with as a city,” said Mr Kalumba.

And area Ward Councillor, Teddy Mwaba appealed to residents in the area to support the local authority’s resolve to take over the running of all cooperative markets in the city for improved service delivery.

Mr. Mwaba urged marketeers to turn up in numbers for the planned cleaning exercise of the market.

He however warned those who will not turn up that they risked not to be permitted to trade at the market once the facility was re-opened which was currently closed due to lack of proper sanitary facilities.

“I am urging all of you to come for the cleaning exercise of the market so that this market can be cleared by Public Health Inspectors to re-open for business before you die of hunger,’ said Mr. Mwaba.
