Southern African Centre for Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD) has congratulated President elect Hakainde Hichilema for winning the August 12, 2021 general elections.
And SACCORD Executive Director, Boniface Chembe says Mr Hichilema should ensure that his administration promotes democracy and peace in the country.
Mr. Chembe stated that peace is the foundation of development in a democratic nation.
‘’The incoming leadership must allow freedom of expression, and freedom of assembly and ensure that every single Zambian is given an opportunity to participate in governance issues of the country,’’ said Mr Chembe.
He noted that the huge voter turnout in the August 12, general elections, is an indication of high Zambians expectations of the incoming government in delivering issues of development.
‘’The high voter turnout shows that the people of Zambia are confident and hopeful that the country will be a better place than before,’’ he noted.
Caritas Zambia Executive Director, Eugene Kabilika says the new government should pay attention to the restoration of the rule of law in the country.
Mr Kabilika said there is need to protect and respect the dignity of every Zambian regardless of their social status. ‘’If we want peace to continue to thrive in the country, we must strive to promote justice by respecting the dignity of every Zambian, especially the women, children, persons with disabilities and the youths,’’ he said.
He further called on people to celebrate their victory responsibly and ensure that they respect the rights of those that did not win the elections. -ZANIS
