POLICE STATION FACES DEMOLITION

By ADRIAN MWANZA

RICHARD Kachingwe Police Post in Lusaka’s Kabwata Site and Service faces demolition as it is one of the facilities that has been built along the Njanji Commuter train land area.

Last week, Zambia Railways Limited (ZRL) issued a notice that all illegal structures constructed in the Njanji Commuter Railway Reserve land would be demolished without compensation.

Meanwhile, Minister of Transport Frank Tayali said there should not be any discrimination in dispensing justice and the police post should be demolished if it was found wanting.

Mr Tayali said that the police post needed to go if it belonged in the encroached premises and they should not be treated as sacred cows.

“My simple comment would be that Zambia Railways should be impartial when dealing with this matter but the law should be followed to the letter,” he said.

And Zambia Police spokesperson Esther Katongo said the premises were just handed to them by the local authority for use and that they did not have any authority over it.

Ms Katongo said the local authority were better placed to give guidance because they were the ones that handled the issue.

And ZRL acting Public Relations Manager Sombe Ng’onga said they would issue a statement next week.

Bemba chiefs, loyalists urged to support government

By ADRIAN MWANZA

BEMBA chiefs and traditional leaders have been urged to rally behind President Hakainde Hichilema to propel the country to greater heights.

Member of the royal family of the Bemba establishment Chilekwa Munkonge who was also former UPND Presidential campaign manager for Lusaka Central said there was need for chiefs in the northern region to embrace the President and his vice president Ms Mutale Nalumango.

“I urge all chiefs and traditional leaders to rally behind the President and her honour the Vice President. As for me, you have my unwavering support and that of the people who fully support you,” he said.

Mr Munkonge said the overwhelming mandate was clear evidence of the trust and confidence which the people had placed on Mr Hichilema to steer the country in the right direction.

He said he was ready to work with the head of State and hoped that the chiefs would do the same to foster development in the country.
