AMBIA women’s national team striker Natasha Nanyangwe says the Copper Queens will qualify for the 2023 FIFA Women’s world Cup to be held in Australia and New Zealand.
Nanyangwe, who is part of the squad that has set up camp in Marrakech ahead of the 2022 Morocco Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) said morale is high and the girls are determined to work hard to achieve their objectives.
The 22-year-old striker who is among the youngest stars coach Bruce Mwape named in his final 22-member squad said they will fight to ensure that the expectations of the fans are met.
“We are going to break the records, we are going to the World Cup because the morale is high in camp and even our fans back home expects us to go to the World Cup so we will surely do that and personally the reason why I’m here is I want to win the Africa Cup,” Nanyangwe said.
She however noted the need for the Copper Queens to improve upfront after the 1-1 stalemate against Morocco in an international friendly match played at the weekend in Rabat.
The Copper Queens will face Cameroon, Tunisia and Togo in Group B at the tournament which will run from July 2 to July 23.
The young striker who will be making her debut appearance at the AWCON said it is not going to be easy for the Copper Queens who will face tough opponents at the tournament.
Meanwhile, left back Margret Belemu has called on fans to continue supporting the Copper Queens who were the first team to arrive in Morocco for the AWCON.
She said the friendly game against AWCON host Morocco helped the squad to assess itself ahead of the AWCON.
The top four teams at the tournament will qualify for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
