THE Patriotic Front (PF) is shocked that President Hakainde Hichilema, as Commander In Chief of the Armed Forces is asking Zambians to join him in making the country safe instead of speaking to
the nation and assuring citizens about their safety under his stewardship.
And Mr Lubinda says Inspector General of Police Lemmy Kajoba should be forgiven because he has found himself in a structurally awkward position which has essentially made him a lame duck.
In an interview yesterday, Mr. Lubinda said the PF was disappointed that President Hichilema had kept silent over the abduction of Pamela Chisumpa and 12 other females while Zambians were worrying about their safety.
He said it was shocking that the Head of State was calling on Zambians to have conversations with him on how best the President should govern and make the country more secure.
Mr Lubinda stated that as Commander In-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Hichilema was best placed to know how safe the country was and should therefore be the one to give hope and assurance to the people he was governing.
He said President Hichilema should not join ordinary citizens in lamentations and expressing worry, anxiety when he was supposed to assure citizens that the country was in safe hands under
his leadership.
Mr. Lubinda said it was the responsibility of President Hichilema to make sure that the country was safe and any form of criminality should be deterred by the security forces.
“We are shocked that instead of assuring citizens that the country is safe under
his presidency, Mr Hichilema is joining Zambians in lamentations over the abduction of Pamela Chisumpa and 12 other girls. He is the Commander In Chief of the Armed Forces and he must give us
hope that the country is safe. How does he ask Zambians to have conversations with him when citizens are looking up to him for safety? Mr Lubinda wondered.
And Mr. Lubinda said those calling for Mr. Kajoba to resign for failing to act professionally over the abduction of the 13 girls should understand that the Inspector General of Police was in a serious
awkward situation.
He said those demanding the resignation of Mr Kajoba should feel sorry for him because his authority as the head of the Zambia Police was limited and compromised.
“While the Inspector General of Police is at force headquarters, one of his deputies is with the President all the time getting instructions from the Head of State. Mr. Kajoba is in a very awkward situation and his authority in some of the matters is limited,” Mr Lubinda said.
